Weekend Recap

This weekend was filled with Family fun activities.
We started off Saturday with Patrick and Sully's soccer games and were so excited that PopPop joined us for the games.  Because the boys tend to have games at the same time, this was the first of Sully (and Coach Gill's) games that I was able to see!
After the games we went to the neighborhood Boo Bash.  We painted pumpkins...
 Finny got his face painted...
the boys climbed some very high walls...
and we met some super cute friends!
After the bash, we enjoyed some fro-yo.
In the afternoon, Finnegan's buddy, Juan Pablo, came to play and join us for dinner.
After church on Sunday, Finn and I got to work on his big project.
He created a website to sell his artwork - www.etsy.com/shop/CoolArtByFinn
I'm so proud of the work he's doing.  Not only is Finnegan a wonderful artist, but a great entrepreneur!

We've Been Boo'd!

This is our first Halloween in our new home
and we spent all day last week decorating our house to look extra spooky!
We were thrilled to have a knock on our door late last night only to find that we were boo'd!
The boys were so excited by the balloons, halloween crafts, sweet treats and more.
I loved the pumpkin sweets and beautiful mums.
Tonight, we purchased all kinds of goodies, Finn made a sign, and we prepared to go Boo one of our neighbors.  With Ghost stakes in hand, the boys put on hoods and masks, grabbed their flashlights, and we went in the dark neighborhood.
We had a plan, snuck up stealthy to the house, executed it quietly, and ran squealing back to our house.  It was such a blast!

Oktoberfest 2015

Today I surprised Gill with an early birthday outing to celebrate his 45th Birthday.
While Mom and Dad took the boys to paint pottery and go to the movies, we went to the Charlotte Oktoberfest with our neighborhood friends.
The poor weather didn't stop us from enjoying an assortment of beers
(with over 300 beers to chose from there was no short of samples)
We enjoyed tons of beer, delicious food from the food trucks, and awesome games like Giant Jenga)
After 4 hours of Oktoberfest, our friends came back to our house for dinner, game night and beer!
Cheers to you, Gill!  Happy Birthday!!
(p.s. notice the awesome beer glass necklace and pretzel necklaces - I love beer accessories!)

14th Anniversary

Today Gill and I celebrated our 14th Wedding Anniversary.
While the kids were in school, we treated ourselves to a special lunch at a french bistro - reminiscent of our honeymoon.  It was wonderful to have a slow morning together and have some special quiet time, just the two of us.
Happy Anniversary to my best friend, my partner in crime and the love of my life.

Sully's Soccer Season

Guess what happens when Sully shows up to his first soccer practice and there is no coach?
Daddy saves the day!
That's right, Sully's team (Team Fireballs) is lucky to have Gill and Ivan (Gabriel's daddy) step in and coach their awesome team.
The kids are having a great season and a lot of fun on the field!

Patrick's Soccer

Patrick has been working so hard on the Charlotte United Academy Team.  It's a big honor that he was chosen to be on the team and he's been so dedicated to the bi-weekly practices and game.  Patrick's skills are sharpening, his confidence building and his love of soccer increasing.

We are so proud of you, Patrick.  Keep up the great work!

A Delicious Treat

The boys had a day off of school today and Finnegan got out our favorite Magnolia Bakery Cookbook and chose their famous cupcake recipe.
He worked so hard, using the kitchen aide by himself, measuring all the ingredients and, aside from the oven, Finn really did it all himself.  He even reaped he rewards of the delicious batter covered whisk!
 Piping the frosting
Finn's cupcakes were delicious and he generously shared them with all his brothers and neighborhood friends.

Never Forget? How about Always Remember?

I know what's coming tomorrow, Facebook flooded with pictures of the Towers and American Flags.  Everyone reminding everyone else to "Never Forget".  As if I had a choice.  I always remember

I always remember the first time I went up to the 99th Floor of the tower, pressed my face up to the glass and looked down below.  So proud of the job I had achieved, so in awe of where I was standing and so in love with the view I looked down upon.

I will never forget watching them jump.  Never.   I think about the horror they were experiencing, where jumping to their death was a better option than the horrors that were happening right then and there.  On the floor where we worked.

I always remember the elevator rides.  Taking the express elevator - the speed in which it rushed us 2/3 of the way up the tower to the local elevators.  I remember how the elevators used to shake when it was windy outside and how newbies would panic if it shook or slowed down.  I remember how my mom, with her fear of elevators, decided not to brave the ride when she and dad came to visit my office. How right she was.

I will never forgot the elevators plummeting to the ground.  People being trapped inside, the lucky few (like my former boss) that made it out alive, but most who fought a losing battle inside an elevator that was supposed to soar you to the sky, not drop you to your death.

I will always remember the skyline.  I adored that skyline.  Gill and I would be in the car, and I would see the towers from across the Hudson.  As dorky as it was, I would always yell "Hi Work!"  Every time.  I just couldn't get enough of the towers, their powerful stance at the end of Manhattan, I loved them.

I will never forget the smoke.  Watching from New Jersey as my beloved towers burned.  I couldn't even see the remnants, all I could see was the smoke.  I will never forget being grateful that it was rainy and foggy the night of our wedding.  I had chosen that reception site because of the view, but only 2 weeks after that fateful day, I didn't want my guests spending the night looking at the burning graveyard of our destroyed skyline.

I will always remember the relationships that were formed there.  A Jersey Girl and a Brooklyn Babe forged a lifelong friendship on the 99th Floor.  We raced down the elevators every day to grab lunch, a french martini, or a few pairs of shoes before heading back up to our offices in the sky.

I will never forget that we are the lucky ones. So many of our friends and colleagues were not graced with the same fate.  So many of them were there that morning, so many of them lost their lives.  Perhaps we had guardian angels, perhaps it was fate, but I will never forget how blessed I am to be here.  To have my husband, to have my children, to have my best friend - to have a future with all of them.

Tomorrow, don't worry that I've forgotten, because I always remember.

Apple Picking

Today we headed up to the mountains to go apple picking.
We went earlier in the season than usual, and it made all the difference.  It was a beautiful day with minimal crowds - and no lines for the apple cider donuts!
There was a big difference between this year and years past.  Mainly, the boys did not need our help.  Instead of asking us to help them reach high branches, all our boys just climbed the trees - up high!!
Patrick even took quite a fall out of a tree, hitting a lot of branches on his way down, but climbed right back up and got more juicy red apples!

When we were done gathering our apples, the threesome had picked over 55 pounds!!

On our way home we stopped in our favorite mountain town, Saluda.  We had a delicious dinner at a quaint restaurant and then found something exciting - The Saluda Gem Mine!  The boys panned for gems and found lots of treasures to take home with us.

Flashback Friday

This past weekend, I was able to snap a picture of Sully next to the "golden" sign that he posed next to in 2011.

4 years later, he's still our sweet golden boy!

Masterpiece Monday

This weekend, Finn found my special Magnolia Bakery cookbook and asked if he and I could make a sweet treat.  I told him to pick a recipe and write down the ingredients and then we went to the store.
Finn got right to work on his Double Layer Chocolate Buttermilk Cake
He made the batter and the frosting completely from scratch
When the cakes had cooled, he layered and frosted them..
and added a signature Smiley Face touch!
When it was complete, he rang the doorbells of all his friends and he and 7 buddies enjoyed his sweet creation.
Such a delicious Masterpiece!!
